Road to Resurrection display near Leesburg

Members of the Hardins Creek Friends Church in Leesburg are staging an outdoor Road to Resurrection display at the church that depicts scenes leading up to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It opened Saturday, March 23 and runs through Monday, April 1.

“It’s set up all around the church,” said church member Sherri Barrett, who is a coordinator of the event. “That way people can just walk through the event any time of day or night because we have it lit.”

The church group puts together a similar nativity scene for Christmas. The Easter event was inspired by an anonymous donor.

“It started after Covid began as a way of presenting the Easter story so that people could understand the true Easter story, and so that they would understand the sacrifice that Jesus made in order to save us from sin and give us salvation and eternal life,” said Barrett.

She said the display is free to the public. “We do have a donation box out there if they do want to donate, but it’s free to all,” she said.

“They will see how Jesus had perfume anointed on his feet from Mary at the home of Lazarus, and then it will go on to the Passover where he comes in on a donkey and then on to the last supper with all of the desciples and onto seeing Pontious Pilot, King Herod, soldiers, the cross he was put on and the tomb that he raised from with the angel that told the ladies that came to the tomb that he was no longer there — that he had risen.”
