The Hillsboro FFA Chapter was represented last month by seven members who competed in the General Livestock Judging CDE and Equine Judging CDE contests. All of these members made their way to the Ohio State Fairgrounds and Expo Center where they went head-to-head with other members from across the state.

The general livestock team consisted of six members who were: Blake Herdman, Corbin Winkle, Emma Yochum, Claire Winkle, Carter Boyd and Bailey Wallen. Herdman had the highest score on the team. The team as a whole placed 38th in the State Livestock Judging CDE.

In this specific contest the team members were challenged to judge two classes of four livestock species including beef cattle, sheep, swine and goats. Besides judging the physical characteristics of the animals the FFA members also had to evaluate the genetics of different livestock and even answer multiple questions. All in all the livestock judging team had a successful day at the contest.

On the same day the Hillsboro FFA Chapter also had one member participate in the Equine Judging CDE. This contest allowed members to compete with others by evaluating the quality and physical characteristics of different horses. They were also challenged with identifying equipment and tools used within the equine industry. The Hillsboro FFA member that participated in the contest was Abbie Rudy.
