Library displaying Film Foggers’ photos

A photograph can be described as a single moment in time and currently there are several of those captured moments on display at the Highland County District Library in Hillsboro.

Several pieces from Film Foggers, a local photography club, will be on display throughout September and October, with the photos changing every two weeks.

Library assistant supervisor Donna O’Dom said, “After a long absence, we are happy to have the Film Foggers back, especially around fair time.”

One of Film Foggers’ many focuses is manning the photography booth at the Highland County Fair, said club president Carleen Alexander. She added that fellow member Don Edenfield is the superintendent for the photography building there.

In addition to the club’s work at the fair, members also regularly go on photo-taking field trips, such as to cemetaries and conservatories, Alexander said.

O’Dom added that the club’s photography, “was a regular feature at the library years ago. Now, we hope to make it a regular feature again,” she said. “With new faces and a diverse, talented group, we hope the community will take the time to come and see their work.”

Alexander described the photos currently on display, saying that there are “three or four local sites,” as well as “some from faraway places.” As an example, a photograph of a horse, which previously won the people’s choice award, was taken in Highland County. Another photograph of an archway was taken in Israel.

The club, which was founded in the late 1990s, is open to all photographers. Alexander described Film Foggers as “a learning club,” encompassing “all different levels” of experience. The club currently has between 12 and 15 members, she added.

Film Foggers meets most months on the third Thursday at 7 p.m. in the basement of the Highland County Administration Building.
