Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports that for the week of June 15-21 the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 480 911 calls, answered 178 requests for service, dispatched 123 fire and EMS runs, took 53 offense reports, and investigated eight traffic crashes.

On June 16 at 2:54 p.m. the sheriff’s office received a call from a North Gath Road resident who returned home to find her house had been burglarized. Several firearms and jewelry were taken during the crime. A deputy responded to the scene for a report and evidence collection.

A Washington Township resident came to the sheriff’s office at 6:10 p.m. on June 17 to speak with a deputy about his identity being stolen. Information was gathered for an offense report and an an investigation was initiated.

A deputy was dispatched to a Sicily Road home on June 18 at 5:42 p.m. to investigate a burglary complaint. While the homeowner was gone someone entered the residence and stole several items including a security system. A report was taken..

Highland County deputies responded to a Beechwood Lane residence on June 20 to investigate a stalking complaint. A mother of a juvenile called the sheriffs office at 11:19 p.m. to report an adult male in the neighborhood refused to leave to her children alone. Deputies took a report and spoke to all parties involved. No charges were filed the suspect was advised accordingly to cease the unacceptable behavior.

At 9:05 p.m. on June 21 a deputy was dispatched to the 10000 block of SR 771 after a 911 caller reported a domestic disturbance. The victim ran to a neighbor’s home to call law enforcement after being assaulted. Anthony W. Thiel Ill of Hillsboro was arrested and charged with one count of domestic violence.

June 18

Wade Landess, 37, Hillsboro, was arrested on a bench warrant

Melanie Ballein, 33, Hillsboro, was arrested on a bench warrant.

June 19

ACCIDENTS

At 12:16 p.m. a two-car collision was reported on Willetsville Pike. Michael McCarty, 66, of Hillsboro, was stopped at the traffic signal on Willetsville Pike at West Main Street. McCarty attempted to back up due to a semi tractor trailer making a right turn off West Main Street onto Willetsville Pike. McCarty backed into a vehicle driven by Randy Skidmore, 54, of Hillsboro. Skidmore had exited the library onto Willetsvme Pike and was stopped behind McCarty. Minor damage was reported. There were no injuries or citations.

At 4:01 p.m. the department responded to a one-car collision on Belfast Pike. Clayton Leininger, 26, of Hillsboro, was southbound on Belfast Pike. He advised that a unknown person driving a green Tahoe was in his lane of travel. Clayton swerved to avoid the vehicle, but overcorrected and lost control. His vehicle slid sideways into the northbound side of the road in the grass, causing him to strike a sign and a tree before coming to a stop. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued.

June 21

ARREST

Jesse Dermer, 35, Hillsboro, was cited for driving under suspension.

June 22

INCIDENT

The police department received a call from resident in the 900 of North High Street. Witness advised that a male and female were actively engaged in a physical altercation in the field behind Wendy’s. Officers responded and after investigation and tracking down both parties Amber Coyle, 33, New Vienna, and Joshua Coyle, 31, New Vienna, were placed under arrested for domestic violence and transported to the Highland County Jail.

ARRESTS

Rebekah Fields-Weber, 27, Xenia, was arrested on a bench warrant.

Gina Mick, 27, Greenfield, was arrested on a bench warrant.
