Fairfield schools special meeting

The Fairfield Local Schools Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 1 in the district office conference room for the purpose of meeting with the architects and discussing personnel issues. The public is invited to attend.

Birthday Open House on July 11

Clara “Porky” Sears will be honored with a 60th Birthday Open House Saturday, July 11, 2 to 6 p.m. at the Clinton Highland Joint Fire District Building, SR 28 West, in New Vienna. The event is open to all who know her and is hosted by her sisters. Refreshments will be served. Gifts are welcome, but not expected. HDH Board of Governors meeting

The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors will be holding a special meeting in executive session at 5 p.m. Tuesday July 7 at the Ponderosa Meeting Center to discuss strategic planning.

L-C Board of Ed. meeting

The Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 30 board of education building.

Funds for blankets

Highland County Church Women United is collecting funds to purchase heavyweight blankets to be distributed to economically disadvantaged families in Ohio. These blankets offer warmth and relief during dangerously cold weather. Those who would like to contribute to this project can contact Valeta Doorneweerd at (937) 393-5099. The purpose of Church Women United is to encourage church women to come together in a visible community to witness their faith in Jesus Christ and, enabled by the Holy Spirit, to go out into every neighborhood and nation as instruments of reconciling love.

Craft and bake sale

The Greenfield Church of Christ in Christian union will hold a craft and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, July 3 at Southern Hills Community Bank in Greenfield.

Hillsboro Yard Waste site closed

The Hillsboro Yard Waste site will be closed Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4. It will reopen for regular hours Friday, July 10.

Quilters of Highland County annual show

The Quilters of Highland County will hold their annual show July 1 and August 31 at the Hillsboro Elementary School. Guests are invited to display their quilts. In addition to the quilt displays there will be door prizes, a silent auction, vendors and special booths. A quilt will be raffled off. All proceeds will go to a local organization that helps families in the county. For more information or a form to share a quilt, call Darlene Prosek at 937-393-3031.

Rummage/bake sale

The Fall Creek ladies of the USFW will have a rummage/bake sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4. The church is located at 11345 Karnes Rd., Hillsboro.

4-H project judging

On Tuesday, July 7 all 4-H food and nutrition, clothing and textiles, health, child development, money management, genealogy, home furnishing, creative arts projects and several special interest projects will be judged at Hillsboro Elementary School. Judging begins at 9 a.m. Family & Consumer Sciences 4-H advisers will have complete judging schedules. All members should have received a postcard with the web link to the judging schedule. Club members with questions should check with their advisers or call the Highland County Extension Office at 937-393-1918.

If it is impossible for a member to attend judging, call the Extension Office for an appointment to complete makeup judging on July 15. Late projects will be graded, but are not eligible for outstanding awards.

Vacation Bible School

The New Hope Baptist Church will hold Vacation Bible School on July 8, 9 and 10 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. “Bible Blast to the Past Discovering God’s Everlasting Love” will be for ages 3 years to teens. It will be held at the church, 128 E. Beech St., Hillsboro. For more information, call 937-393-5215.

4-H Style Revue and Awards Night

The annual 4-H Style Revue and Awards Night will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 9 at the Hillsboro Elementary School. 4-H members will be modeling their clothing outfits that were judged on July 8. This is always one of the highlights of the 4-H year. All summer judged 4-H project awards will be presented during the July 9 program.

The top models will be chosen at the Style Revue on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 2:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Building during the fair. There will not be an awards program at the Highland County Fair for the summer judged 4-H projects.

8 Days a Week at Senior Center

The Beatles tribute band, 8 Days a Week, a professional band and show, will play a live concert at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center on Saturday, July 11. Doors open and event begins at 6 p.m. The community is encouraged to attend this fundraising event. Tickets are on sale now at the senior center and Merchants National Bank (main branch) and are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Dinner is included. Call the center for more details at 393-4745.

Hope Mountain Ministries prayer

Hope Mountain Ministries is asking the public to join it in prayer at 6 p.m. Aug. 4 for the release of the bondage of addiction in Brown County and surrounding areas. Hope Mountain and anyone wanting to join it can meet at the same time and date at the Brown County Sheriff’s Office in Georgetown. Those in other areas are asked to prayer from where they are. Alzheimer’s/Dimentia Lunch & Learn For Familes

A free Alzheimer’s/Dimentia Lunch & Learn For Familes will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 22 and Dec. 15 at The Laurels of Hillsboro. These programs will provide an opportunity for families and caregivers to learn and ask questions about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, while receiving support from others in similar situations.
