Wagon accident claims life of Leesburg man

An 85-year-old Leesburg man lost his life Tuesday in a farm-related accident.

The Highland County Sheriff’s Office said it received a call at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday from a residence at 10171 Hardin’s Creek Road, southeast of Leesburg. The caller advised that there had been an accident and there was a gentleman unresponsive on the ground, sheriff Donnie Barrera said.

The Highland County North Joint Fire and Ambulance District was dispatched to the scene and Barrera said that when officers arrived at the site resuscitation efforts were already in progress.

The victim, Robert Ray Curry Jr., was pronounced deceased at the scene.

It appeared that Curry was working on a hay wagon when a piece of the wagon fell on top of him, pinning home to the ground, where he was stuck until family members found him, Barrera said.

The Highland County coroner was called and advised of the accident along with the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield.

Curry was a lifelong farmer and a graduate of McClain High School in Greenfield, according to the funeral home.
