Involuntary manslaughter among charges

0

A handful of people who were among those indicted on Jan. 10, but whose indictments were sealed, have been served and those indictments are now a matter of public record.

Last week the January session of a Highland County grand jury met and handed down indictments. Only six of those indictments were released while the others were sealed.

Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins has said that indictments are sometimes sealed for a variety of reasons that include victim safety, confidential informant safety, or if the person charged is a flight risk. After the sealed indictments are served, they become public record.

All of the following people whose indictments were sealed, but have now been served have been charged with heroin trafficking, and one of those people faces further charges because a person they allegedly supplied heroin to died.

Brittany Rae Wallace, 28, Hillsboro, is charged with first-degree felony involuntary manslaughter, second-degree felony corrupting another with drugs, and fifth-degree felony heroin trafficking.

According to the indictment filed with the Highland County Clerk of Courts last week, the charges stem from the September death of someone who allegedly received heroin from Wallace.

Also indicted last week and now served are:

• Harold Wilson Davis III, 40, Greenfield, charged with five fourth-degree felony counts of trafficking in heroin in the vicinity of a school, seven fifth-degree felony counts of heroin possession, and two fifth-degree felony counts of heroin trafficking;

• Damean Allen Davis, 23, Greenfield, charged with one fourth-degree felony count of trafficking in heroin in the vicinity of a school, three fifth-degree felony counts of heroin trafficking, and four fifth-degree felony counts of heroin possession;

• Heather Piatt, aka Heather Applegate, 32, Greenfield, charged with five fifth-degree felony counts of heroin trafficking, four fifth-degree felony counts of heroin possession, and one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony;

• Jessica Colene Shumaker, 31, Greenfield, charged with fourth-degree felony trafficking in heroin in the vicinity of a school and fifth-degree felony heroin possession.
