Longtime teacher Jerry Walker will return to the Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education along with Larry Lyons and longtime board member Beverly Rhoads, while Doug Ernst, who was serving on the board through an appointment, will not, according to unofficial results from Tuesday’s general election in Highland County.
The four were running for three seats on the board.
Lyons received 1,727 votes, Rhoads 1,680, Walker 1,476 and Ernst 1,411.
Lyons was also serving on the board through an appointment and was on the board about 25 years ago.
Rhoads is currently in her 12th year on the board and before that worked 44 years for the Hillsboro City Schools.
Walker served one term on the board from 2012 through 2015. He also taught in the Hillsboro schools for 32 years.
William Myers ran unopposed for an unexpired term.
In Greenfield, incumbents Eric Zint and Marilyn Mitchell will return to the board along with newcomer Charley Roman. They were running for three available seats along with Amy Ernst.
In the Fairfield Local School District, incumbents James Craycraft and Rindy L. Mathews will return to the school board. They were running for two seats along with John Lawson.
Hillsboro, Greenfield and Fairfield were the only school districts in Highland County where races were contested.
