Fairfield Lions boys and girls bowling preview

The Fairfield Lions boys and girls bowling teams opened their inaugural season on November 20 at Highland Lanes in Hillsboro when they took on Wilmington, Hillsboro, Whiteoak, and Lynchburg-Clay.

The Lions are coached by Dennis Mosny and Shawn May. The boys team and girls each have seven participants allowing Fairfield to bring boys and girls to sanctioned competitions.

Mosny is excited about the potential of the program and the sport as a whole, “We were at the state rules meeting and this is the fastest growing sport in the state of Ohio. This is another thing that allows students to participate and show school pride.”

May expects the kids to grow and learn this season, “We are expected to compete and grow and learn about the sport. Naturally we set goals for the students so that they can grow in both their forma and their numbers.”

“The anticipation that we are going to compete against another team. The fact that we have been coming here and doing practices. I think they are ready to see how they do in an actual match.”

Mosny wants to keep the season in perspective for his athletes and said, “As far as goals go, you have seasoned teams like Lynchburg-Clay and Hillsboro that bowl anywhere from 900-1000 pins.We are gonna shoot for maybe 700-800 pins average. A fellow coach warned me not have have high expectations this season.”

Holden Ferguson and Blaine Vickers are both going to be expected to contribute a lot of experience for the fledgling team.

“Holden has been bowling for the last five years and has had success at the youth level and he is pretty consistent. Blaine is a fast riser, he has only been playing for a year but we expect a lot out of him,” said Mosny
