Hillsboro Garden Club planning 90th anniversary

0

The Oct. 23 meeting of the Hillsboro Garden Club was called to order by President Nancy Baldwin. The members stood for the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a rendition of “God Bless America” led by member Ed Davis. Roll call showed 18 members present and four absent. The roll call question was “How do you decorate for fall?”

Treasurer Ruth Anna gave her report. The 2018-19 Hillsboro Garden Club handbooks were distributed.

Nancy Baldwin displayed a specimen of “contorted filbert” and gave a brief history of its development.

The evening’s program was planning the club’s 90th anniversary. The Hillsboro Garden Club was organized in May of 1929 and was affiliated in 1930. Many suggestions were made for what could be a yearlong celebration.

As there was no old business or new business, the meeting was adjourned and snacks were provided by Teresa and Darlene.

The Christmas party will be held on Dece. 4 at the Ponderosa restaurant. The club members will order from the menu. No reservations are needed. Bring a gift.

The next meeting will held Nov. 27 in Floral Hall at the Highland County Fairgrounds in Hillsboro. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Ruth Anna and Nancy will host.
