Highland County Sheriff’s Corporal Sandy Frost passed away unexpectedly Monday, Oct. 22 at her home in Sugar Tree Ridge, and despite a chilly overcast day Saturday, Paint Valley Joint EMS Fire District Lt. Branden Jackman was glad to brave the elements to render colors as her funeral procession passed under them.

“The sheriff’s office requested our assistance in getting the flag up and to show the honors,” he said. “We were honored to do so as the procession came through.”

The fire truck was stationed in the entrance to Hillsboro Elementary School, it’s aerial ladder extended high above U.S. Route 62 with the American flag fluttering in a wind that was mixed with a misty rain.

Lt. Keith Brown, the Highland County jail administrator, described Frost as “an outstanding officer and a hard worker.”

Frost was a 1980 graduate of Eastern High School and had worked at the sheriff’s office for 14 years. She also had worked in the Hillsboro City School District as a teacher’s aide for disabled students.

Brown said she was selfless and giving, and someone who “was always there for anybody,” Brown said.

“If somebody put in for a day off and got denied,” he added “she would come in and work their day and then schedule herself off some time later on. She would donate her own sick days if somebody else’s had run out. If there was something someone needed, she was there.”

Following services that were held at the Rhoades-Edgington Funeral Home in Hillsboro, the funeral procession passed under the waving American flag enroute to the Cherry Fork Cemetery.

Frost had celebrated her 56th birthday on Oct. 2.
