Republican Women scholarships available

The Highland County Republican Women’s Club is offering five scholarships of $500 each to assist any Highland County high school senior planning to further their education upon graduation. The scholarships are being awarded to honor the memory of two local well-known Republican women — Kay Ayres and Margaret Van Frank. Each are remembered for their contributions of service to the club and the Republican party.

The non-renewable scholarships are open to any resident Highland County high school senior planning to attend a two- or four-year year college, a trade or technical school or certificate program. Students need at least a 2.5 GPA or better to apply. Political affiliation is not a consideration for the scholarship.

Applications are available at all county high school guidance counselor offices. Home-schooled students within the county may call HCRW Scholarship Committee Chair Sue Smith at 937-403-2294 to obtain an application. The application deadline is Friday, March 24.

The application includes writing a short essay on “Why do you feel it is important for your generation to exercise the right to vote” and a telephone interview. Scholarships will be awarded on April 18.

Students are encouraged to contact their school’s guidance counselor and apply.

Submitted by the Highland County Republican Women’s Club Scholarship Committee: Ann Morris, Judy Sanker, Sue Smith and Randalyn Worley.
