Greenfield resident turning 100

Greenfield’s Lily Sanders has a very big birthday coming up.

When Sanders was born, the end of the first world war was just a few years passed. The United States was experiencing the economic growth and social change of the 1920s that would eventually slide into the Great Depression by the end of the decade.

What the world looked like in 1923 is very different from what it looks like in 2023. Sanders, more than most, has seen many things come and many things go in the nearly 100 years she has lived.

Sanders will celebrate her 100th birthday on Sept. 26, 2023. A great way to not only help her celebrate, but also to mark this significant occasion, would be with cards. You can send her a card to her at 323 Oak St., Greenfield, Ohio 45123.

She was featured in the Sept. 13 installment of “Where’s Wilkin”, where city manager Todd Wilkin sat down with Sanders for a brief visit, also presenting her with a plaque and a bouquet of flowers from the village to help celebrate this particular birthday.

During that visit, Sanders told Wilkin she likes country music, particularly George Jones, and her favorite president was our nation’s 34th, Dwight D. Eisenhower. Sanders also has a little sister who is 92 “years young.”
