A Greenfield woman sentenced to three years of community control on methamphetamine possession was among two people sentenced recently in Highland County Common Pleas Court.

Sarah Kennedy, 38, was sentenced for one count of aggravated possession of meth, a fifth-degree felony. She was ordered to be evaluated for mental health services.

The court also ordered that if Kennedy violates any of the community control sanctions, she would be given a sentence of six and 12 months and ordered to pay a fine of $2,500.

According to court documents, around May 21, 2022, the Greenfield Police Department got a call from an Adena Health security officer saying a patient was found to be in possession of suspected narcotics. The nurse said that Kennedy went to the emergency room due to a medical issue.

After she was discharged, she “became irate” saying she was going to kill herself. She was pink-slipped and the hospital started to take her belongings from the room, according to hospital procedure. While that was happening, Kennedy took out plastic baggies from her jacket pocket and held them in her hands. After she was told to hand over the baggies, she said she needed to get rid of them before she went to jail and handed them to the nurse. After seeing a crystalline substance inside the baggies, security contacted the Greenfield Police Department.

The patrol officer was given a sealed baggie containing three smaller plastic baggies. Two of the smaller plastic baggies held a white crystalline substance, with the third holding a green leafy substance.

The patrol officer asked her where she obtained the items and what they were. However, Kennedy didn’t answer. The items were submitted to BCI for analysis and a plastic bag that held a crystalline substance was found to contain meth.

In other sentencings, James Williams IV, 42, Beavercreek, was sentenced to three years of community control on one count of aggravated possession of meth, a fifth-degree felony.

Williams IV was ordered to be evaluated for Substance Use Disorder and successfully complete any recommended treatment.

The court also ordered that if Williams IV violates any of the community control sanctions, he would be given a sentence of between six and 12 months and ordered to pay a fine of $2,500.

According to court documents, around April 25, 2022, the Greenfield Police Department received a report that someone was approached by a male on South Street, who claimed they were running from the police. A short time after getting to the intersection of South Seventh Street and South Street, a patrol officer was told by dispatch that the male was at a location on South Seventh Street and “was stating that he had a gun.”

The two patrol officers approached the location on foot. When they got to the front of the residence, someone waved one of the patrol officers to the back of the residence where they saw three subjects pointing at a fourth subject wearing a green shirt. The fourth subject claimed he was walking to a friend’s house and went to the wrong residence.

An officer asked Williams if he had permission to be at the residence. The officer told Williams IV that it looked like the other subjects wanted him to leave, after which Williams IV said “Well, if they did, they can tell me.” Williams IV was placed under arrest for criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct.

The patrol officer found a pack of Marlboro cigarettes in his front-left pants pocket. A small piece of plastic film that contained an off-white powder was found inside the cigarette packet. Williams IV was placed in the officer’s cruiser.

Williams said “Well, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you what was in the pack, but you and I both know what it is so do what you have to do I guess.”

The substance was submitted to BCI for testing and was found to contain meth.
