A Hillsboro man sentenced to community control was among two people sentenced recently in Highland County Common Pleas Court.

Christopher Pollard, 31, was sentenced to three years of community control on two counts of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine, one a third-degree felony and the other a fifth-degree felony.

Pollard was ordered to successfully complete substance use disorder treatment and any recommended aftercare, and to pay $525 to the Highland County Victim Witness Office. If Pollard violates any of the community control sanctions, he would be given a sentence of between nine and 48 months and ordered to pay a fine of $15,000.

According to court documents for the first count, around Sept. 22, 2022, a detective and two investigators met with a confidential informant (CI) who said they could purchase meth from Pollard. The CI made the arrangements to meet them at a location on North Shore Drive.

The investigators monitored them through an audio/video recorder while the detective followed them to the location. After arriving, a male exited the passenger side of a white Kia and entered the CI’s vehicle. The two investigators saw an exchange of money as well as a bag being handed over.

The CI left and made contact with the officers, where they gave over the baggie that contained a crystal substance. The substance was submitted to BCI for testing and found to contain meth with a weight of 3.13 grams.

According to court documents for the second count, around Sept. 26, 2022, two investigators met with a CI who said they could purchase meth and fentanyl from Pollard at the same North Shore Drive location.

The two investigators watched the transaction through the audio/video recorder while following them to the location. While the CI was at the location, Pollard entered the vehicle and gave them two plastic bags in exchange for money. The two investigators followed the CI to the meeting location where the CI gave over a plastic bag that contained a purple substance and a plastic bag that contained a crystal substance.

The CI said they gave the money to Pollard and got back the two bags of drugs. The substances were submitted to BCI where the purple substance was found to contain a fentanyl-related compound with a weight of 0.46 grams and the crystal substance was found to contain meth with a weight of 2.86 grams.

In other sentencings, Shannon James, 52, Leesburg, was sentenced to three years of community control on one count of aggravated possession of meth.

James was ordered to successfully complete SUD treatment and any recommended aftercare.

According to court documents, around May 11, 2023, a deputy was dispatched based on a report of a suspicious person at the intersection of S.R. 711 and S.R. 138 in Paint Township. When the officer got to the location, they saw a vehicle on S.R. 711 just off S.R.138. They also saw someone seated partially on the driver’s seat of the vehicle. They saw that their pants were partially off, their head was down and they were not moving.

The deputy asked if they were OK and the person started to cry. The deputy saw that the keys to the vehicle were on the passenger seat. They also asked what they were doing, with the person not able to give an answer. The person then identified themselves as James. The deputy sensed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage while speaking to her, court documents said.

They asked James how much she’d had to drink, with her saying she had two shots of tequila. The deputy saw that her speech was slurred and her eyes were bloodshot. James was placed under arrest for having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence.

A second deputy started to do an inventory of her vehicle while the other deputy took her to the Highland County Justice Center. The second deputy found a small baggie that contained a crystal substance and a dirty brownish glass pipe inside of a purse on the rear passenger side of the vehicle. The second deputy also found a small metal lock box on the rear driver’s side of the vehicle. They found a set of keys and used one of them to unlock the metal lock box that contained an empty cigarette pouch that contained a clear baggie with a crystal substance inside of it. These items were secured in the back of the second deputy’s cruiser.

The substances found inside the vehicle were submitted to BCI for analysis. The small baggie that contained a crystal substance was found to contain meth with a weight of 0.10 grams, while the baggie that contained a crystal substance was found to contain meth with a weight of 7.74 gram.
