Pickelball is coming to Hillsboro

Pickleball, the fastest growing sport in America, is coming to Hillsboro.

Hillsboro Ohio Pickleball Association Inc. (HOPA) is launching a sponsorship drive to raise funds for 11 new pickleball courts on the former tennis courts at Railroad Park. The sponsorship drive will run from Jan. 10, 2024 through Feb. 14, 2024, while a donation drive will begin Jan. 10, 2024, and run through March 31, 2024.

There are many ways to participate in this opportunity, from making a simple donation to becoming a major court sponsor. Windscreen banners are available in three sizes, with the largest reserved for the championship court. In February, an auction for the sponsorship of the championship court will be held.

“Sponsorship opportunities provide excellent exposure for businesses, with the option to use a family name as the sponsorship name as well,” said Jeff Truitt, president of the Hillsboro Ohio Pickleball Association. “This is ideal for families who would like to give tribute to honor their family name, while contributing to this community endeavor.”

Truitt said the addition of pickleball courts at Railroad Park will allow Hillsboro to take advantage of pickleball’s growing popularity.

“As visitors flock to participate in this thrilling sport, they will require lodging, sustenance and entertainment,” Truitt said. “Pickleball in Hillsboro has the potential to boost the local economy by attracting visitors who will utilize local hotels, restaurants and shops. This influx of visitors will not only bolster our economy but also create an energetic buzz in our community.

“This exciting project will rejuvenate the park and give the community an edge in achieving an extraordinary pickleball experience, typically witnessed only in larger cities. This project is an opportunity to put Hillsboro on the map of fun destinations, not only as a thriving small town but as a vibrant hub for pickleball enthusiasts far and wide.”

According to its website, HOPA had raised $3,895 of its goal of $59,569 as of Thursday afternoon.
