Eclipse glasses available at county libraries

With the solar eclipse happening in April, the Highland County District Library has announced that all locations have eclipse glasses available.

Glasses can be found at all five library locations; however, each library has its own special program for giving them out. Glasses will be available only as long as supplies last.

“The eclipse is a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Hillsboro Library Circulation Manager Sarah Davidson. “We are so excited to offer these glasses to the community.”

At Hillsboro, glasses are now available both desks, in the children’s department and in the general library. Davidson said, “Up here, every patron who checks out five items — books, movies, DVDs, audio books, anything — will receive a pair of glasses.”

In the children’s department, there will be three ways different ways to receive glasses. First, between Monday, March 4 and Saturday April 6, patrons can check out specially marked weather or space book bundles. One bundle will equal one pair of glasses.

Second, kids who attend the eclipse-themed story time on Wednesday, April 3, will receive a pair (one for each child and each adult). Story times are at 11 a.m. for ages 0-2 and 11:30 a.m. for ages 3-5.

Finally, if there are any glasses remaining, after both the book bundle and story time programs, additional glasses will be given out after patrons answer a fun trivia question.

At Rocky Fork, a pair of eclipse glasses will also be given for check-outs: three items for adults and five items for kids. The glasses will be available starting March 1.

The Greenfield branch is currently giving out glasses for every five books that are checked out.

At the Lynchburg Library, the glasses will also be given out for every five check-outs. However, some will also be reserved for patrons who attend the library’s solar eclipse program, presented by the Cincinnati Observatory, on March 25 at 5:45 p.m.

Then over at the Leesburg branch, patrons will have multiple options for earning eclipse glasses. For this month, every patron who answers the eclipse trivia question correctly will receive a pair.

In March, patrons can again receive a pair for correctly answering the monthly trivia question. Every five books checked out will also equal a pair of glasses. Patrons who sign up for a new library card can also earn a pair, as can any patrons who participate in the library’s March Book Clearance.

Eclipse glasses are limited and only available while supplies last. To learn more about them, or to find out about other library programming, call your local library, visit www.highlandco.org, or search “Highland County District Library of Ohio” on Facebook.
