News on the Hillsboro Walk for the Alzheimer’s Association was delivered at the weekly Wednesday morning meeting of the Highland County Board of Commissioners.

Veronica Amato, community engagement manager with the Alzheimer’s Association, said that this year’s walk will take place on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Liberty Park near the YMCA. It was originally scheduled for a different date but it was rescheduled due to Yom Kippur.

“What I’m kind of hoping to do is to kind of build this walk up a little bit,” she said. “Where it is new, we did move it last year out to the YMCA in Liberty Park area. So, I’m just kind of trying to spread the word and get as many people in the community involved with it as I can.”

Amato said people can sign up for the event at the YMCA, even on the day of the event, by scanning a specific QR or going to alz.org/walk. She that last year’s event had just under 200 people in attendance.

She said each version of the walk at different locations has a sub-committee, but Hillsboro’s currently doesn’t have a pre-existing one. She’s been in contact with multiple people to try and build up the committee. Anyone else interested in helping or joining the committee can reach Amato via email at [email protected] or phone at 513-342-6602.

In other news, the board of commissioners opened three bids for lawn care services at multiple country buildings. The commissioners reported that they planned to try and have a bid approved on Wednesday, but nothing was approved by later in the afternoon.

The commissioners approved a parking lot seal coating and striping bid for all of its parking lots at Beech Street, the Hi-Tec Building and the sheriff’s office from Howland Asphalt and Sealcoating with the apparent low bid of $19,974.
