Cruise nights on Wednesday’s in Hillsboro

The Ohio Car Shows & Cruise Ins group will hold a cruise night every other Wednesday from May 1 to Oct. 30 from 5-9 p.m. at Frisch’s Big Boy in Hillsboro.

There will be a 50/50 raffle at each of the cruise nights with proceeds going to Hillsboro schools for students who can’t afford lunches.

“It’s sad that in the United States we have kids that can’t afford lunch,” said Max Sprague, who coordinates the Ohio Car Shows & Cruise Ins group. “I moved down here a couple years ago, and the guys in the uptown Hillsboro group are always wanting to do something.”

He said he hopes to raise as much as possible for the school lunches. “I’ve done this before where it’s just been a few bucks one week and there’s been a couple hundred the next,” he said.

Sprague said Hillsboro has a rich car history. “My wife grew up here, and her and her girlfriend used to get in her girlfriend’s Mustang and do the loop that everyone else used to do,” he said. “That’s how it all started, and I’d like to see that come back.”

He said anyone is welcome at the events whether they have a car or motorcycle or not. “I started the Ohio Car Shows & Cruise Ins group 10 years ago, and my motto is if it’s got wheels and you’re proud of it, I want to see it,” he said.

He said he hopes for a large turnout at the events. “It’s going to be nothing but community and fellowship,” he said.

Sprague has a 1968 Plymouth that is called the Big Banana. “Some of my friends have the new stuff, some have old stuff, and some have bikes,” he said. “Whatever makes you happy, I want to see it.”
