Recount slated for two Highland County seats

Two seats remain remains in question after the Highland County Board of Elections certified the 2023 General Election results.

Cathy Griffith received 1,065 votes for one of three seats on the Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education. Becky Sanderson received 871 votes. Stacie Rhonemus and Ashley Watson both received 572, triggering a recount on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

Brenda Losey won one of three seats on Greenfield Council at-large with 458 votes. Mary Ellen McMurry won a seat with 424 votes. Carlos Ooten received 334 votes and Donald R. Day received 333 votes, triggering an automatic recount that will be held Tuesday, Dec. 5.

State Issue 1 to establish an individual right to one’s own reproductive medical treatment, including abortion, and State Issue 2 to legalize marijuana both passed in Ohio with the majority of Highland County voters opposed to both issues.

Issue 1 passed statewide, but Highland County voters opposed the measure 7,880 to 4,005.

Issue 2 passed statewide, but Highland County voters opposed the measure 6,343 to 5,451.

Justin Harsha, who ran unopposed for Hillsboro mayor, received 1,344 votes.

Dawson Barreras, who ran unopposed for Hillsboro auditor, received 1,286 votes.

Randalyn Worley, who ran unopposed for Hillsboro law director, received 1,250 votes.

William C. Randolph, who ran unopposed for judge of Hillsboro Municipal Court, received 7,924 votes.

Jeremy Kibbey, who ran unopposed for Highland village mayor, received 35 votes.

Rita J. Smith-Daulton defeated Shawn C. Priest for Leesburg mayor, 160 to 125.

Kenny Worley, who ran unopposed for Leesburg Village Council, received 235 votes.

James Burton defeated Terry Burden for Lynchburg mayor, 267 to 199.

Marty Bailey was elected to a seat on Lynchburg Village Council with 321 votes, and Chris Toller was elected to a seat with 239 votes.

Jim Allen, who ran unopposed for Mowrystown mayor, received 70 votes.

Rachel Byrd was elected to a seat on Mowrystown Village Council with 64 votes.

David L. Chaney, who ran unopposed for Brushcreek trustee, received 271 votes.

Angela Crum, who ran unopposed for Brushcreek fiscal officer, received 255 votes.

Jim P. Massey, who ran unopposed for Clay trustee, received 324 votes.

Michael Truman, who ran unopposed for Clay trustee, received 279 votes.

Kelle Winkle defeated Toni G. Stacey for Clay fiscal officer, 228 to 132.

Gary L. Shannon defeated Jim Satterfield for Concord trustee, 259 to 151.

Jason A. Campbell, who ran unopposed for Concord trustee, received 329 votes.

Karen Schroeder, who ran unopposed for Concord fiscal officer, received 339 votes.

Marvin Resibois, who ran unopposed for Dodson trustee, received 700 votes.

Kristy Warner, who ran unopposed for Dodson fiscal officer, received 665 votes.

Andy Caldwell, who ran unopposed for Fairfield trustee, received 782 votes.

Patrick A. Hagan, who ran unopposed for Fairfield fiscal officer, received 755 votes.

Nathan D. Mootz, who ran unopposed for Hamer trustee, received 194 votes.

Kim Walker, who ran unopposed for Hamer fiscal officer, received 187 votes.

Stephen Brad Hart, who ran unopposed for Jackson trustee, received 203 votes.

Carleta L. Weyrich, who ran unopposed for Jackson fiscal officer, received 194 votes.

Ronald D. Ward defeated Rhonda Hassman for Liberty trustee, 1,906 to 657.

Jeffrey A. Beery defeated Bob Brown and Dennis Dunlap for Liberty fiscal officer. Beery got 1,085 votes to Dunlap’s 864 and Brown’s 630.

Joshua Roe defeated Dan Mathews for Madison trustee, 661 to 621.

Sherri Beatty, who ran unopposed for Madison fiscal officer, received 1,100 votes.

Shane Flannery defeated Robert A. Mason for Marshall trustee, 220 to 57.

Melanie Phillips, who ran unopposed for Marshall fiscal officer, received 229 votes.

Dick Barrera, who ran unopposed for New Market trustee, received 546 votes.

Sara Surber, who ran unopposed for New Market fiscal officer, received 502 votes.

Randy Mustard, who ran unopposed for Paint trustee, received 900 votes.

Tara Matthews Campbell, who ran unopposed for Paint fiscal officer, received 865 votes.

Daryl Bumgarner, who ran unopposed for Penn trustee, received 386 votes.

Joshua L. Matthews, who ran unopposed for Penn fiscal officer, received 361 votes.

David L. Hamilton, who ran unopposed for Salem trustee, received 232 votes.

Jamie Wells, who ran unopposed for Salem fiscal officer, received 231 votes.

Nathan Brown, who ran unopposed for Union trustee, received 360 votes.

Scott Lindsey, who ran unopposed for Union trustee, received 322 votes.

John W. Henize, who ran unopposed for Union fiscal officer, received 369 votes.

Arthur Harless defeated Nathan Zornes for Washington trustee, 192 to 129.

Kelli Williamson, who ran unopposed for Washington fiscal officer, received 255 votes.

Tim W. Truman defeated Chip A. Yochum for Whiteoak trustee, 201 to 190.

Wayne Ferguson, who ran unopposed for Whiteoak fiscal officer, received 350 votes.

Jim Ferguson and James V. Frazier received five votes each for Brown County ESC Governing Board.

Todd J. Hixson received 74 votes for the Southern Ohio Sub District 3 ESC Governing Board.

Ruth Ann Ruth received 1,009 votes for the Southern Ohio Sub District 5 ESC Governing Board.

Dennis W. Mount received 1,318 votes for the Southern Ohio Sub District 6 ESC Governing Board

Roger West received 47 votes for the Southern Ohio Sub District 7 ESC Governing Board.

Martha Gausman received 648 votes for the Southern Ohio Sub District 8 ESC Governing Board.

Sally McDaniel received 84 Highland County votes for one of three seats on the Adams County/Ohio Valley School Board. Rick Davis had 53 votes and David E. Riley had 44.

Nicole Barnett received 670 votes for one of three seats on the Bright Local Board of Education. Tammy Hauke received 642 votes, Jobey Lucas 607 votes, John D. Gillespie 498 and Ethan Howard 364.

Adam W. Bolender received 12 Highland County votes for a seat on the Eastern Local Board of Education. Lowell S. Richey received seven votes, and Tina Aileen Tkach and Kristi Kress Wilhelmy both received three votes.

Debbie Forsythe received 13 votes for a seat on the Eastern Local Board of Education.

Ron Friend received 796 votes for one of three seats on the Fairfield Local Board of Education. Mel McKenzie received 642 votes and Casey L. McIntosh received 580.

Eric R. Wise received 1,220 votes for one of two seats on the Greenfield Exempted Village School Board. Sandy Free received 1,183.

Bill Myers received 2,673 votes for one of two seats on the Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education. Tim Milbery received 2,488 votes.

Bryan McCoy and Lindsey Worley both received two votes for the Miami Trace Board of Education.

Issue 3, a renewal of a tax for the benefit of Brushcreek Township for the purpose of maintaining and operating township cemeteries that will collect $21,000 annually, passed with a vote of 211 to 124.

Issue 4, an additional tax for the benefit of Brushcreek Township for the purpose of providing and maintaining emergency firefighting services that will collect $60,000 annually, passed with a vote of 187 to 143.

Issue 5, a tax levy renewal in Dodson Township, passed, 230 to 115.

Issue 6, an additional tax for Madison Township for police protection that would have collected $387,000 annually, failed with 432 against and 128 for it.

Issue 7, a renewal of a tax for the Salem Township for maintaining the cemetery that will collect $12,000 annually, passed, 177 to 103.

Issue 8, an additional tax for the Eastern Joint Fire and EMS District, passed, 224 to 174.

Issue 9, an additional levy for the Highland County North Joint Fire and Ambulance District, passed, 892 to 433.

Issue 10 to replace two existing levies for the Lynchburg Area Joint Fire and Ambulance District passed, 1,070 to 475.

Issue 11, a renewal of a tax levy for village of Highland for current expenses that will collect $4,000 annually, passed, 33 to 23.

Issue 12, a replacement of a tax for the village of Lynchburg for the payment of salaries of permanent or part-time police, passed, 284 to 181.

Issue 13, a renewal of a tax levy for the village of Mowrystown for current expenses that will collect $16,000 annually, failed, 40 to 37.

Issue 14, a replacement of an existing levy and an increase for Children Services in Highland County, failed, 6,582 to 5,001.

Issue 15, a Greenfield South local option, passed, 261 to 94.

Issue 16 and Issue 17 to permit the sale of wine and mixed beverages by Hillsboro Event Center LLC both passed, 294-138 and 291-138, respectively).
