A simple menu for the new year
Hello! It’s a beginning of a new year. Can you believe it’s 2023 and it’s time for a simpler menu. I call it comfort food. Serve it with apple sauce with a sprinkle of sugar and cinnamon on top and good old bread and butter — and you have a great meal, and hopefully you will have leftovers.

Mowrystown to hold Christmas craft fair and parade
The annual Mowrystown Holiday Craft Fair & Bazaar will take place Saturday, Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Whiteoak High School in Mowrystown (44 North High St.).
Brown is re-elected to FB board
COLUMBUS — Nathan Brown of Hillsboro has been re-elected as a District 20 trustee for the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation. He will help govern the state’s largest and most inclusive farm and food organization and represent Farm Bureau members from Adams, Brown, Clermont and Highland counties.
It’s that time of year
The Highland House Museum held a ribbon cutting and grand opening for its themed Christmas trees and Merry Mercantile Christmas Shop last Friday.
Local elementary dedicated official WILD School Site
Fayetteville Elementary School was recently dedicated as an official WILD School Site, the 200th site in Ohio and first in Brown County, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.
Nearly 100 and still going
Lynchburg resident Chuck Miller of Lynchburg is the proud owner of a 1925 Dodge touring car that has some unique history. Not only is the car nearly 100 years old; it was featured in the 1971 movie “Fools’ Parade” starring Jimmy Stewart.
Highland Lanes hosting 40 high school teams
Highland Lanes in Hillsboro will host a bowling tournament Saturday involving 40 varsity boys and girls teams from 20 high schools around Southern Ohio.
Deer harvest is up this year
COLUMBUS – Ohio hunters checked 15,163 deer during the extra weekend of deer gun hunting on Saturday, Dec. 17 and Sunday, Dec. 18, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.
