Highland Co. educators honored by SOESC

Several Highland County educators were honored when the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center (SOESC) hosted its annual Four-County School Board Meeting and Celebration on May 9 at the Laurel Oaks Campus in Wilmington. The event highlighted the exceptional achievements of educators, students and community partners across Adams, Clinton, Fayette and Highland counties.

Wetland project opens near Lynchburg

The Clinton County Park District hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 16 to officially open the East Fork Riparian Reserve Stream and Wetland Restoration Project — a years-long effort to restore the natural habitat of the East Fork Little Miami River located at 64 Webertown Road, Lynchburg.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Federal officials have notified Ohio’s former House speaker that they have closed their investigation of him and he will not face any charges.

Sanders sworn in as Highland County sheriff

Randy Sanders (right) pictured with his wife, Debbie, was officially sworn in Friday as the new Highland County sheriff. Sanders replaces Donnie Barrera, who announced last week that he was retiring May 31, prior to the end of his current term which was to run until Jan. 5, 2025. According to a proclamation, Sanders’ appointment as sheriff will last until the Republican Central Committee is able to fill the vacancy, with the appointment to not last more than 45 days from its start. Barrera had previously announced that he would not seek re-election. The two candidates for the position — Sanders and Brandon Stratton — faced off in the March primary election with Sanders winning by a large margin. Hillsboro LaRosa’s has closed

LaRosa’s full-service Hillsboro pizzeria at 589 Harry Sauner Road, that opened to much fanfare in late 2018, has closed. The last day of business for the pizzeria was Thursday, May 30.
