Kids’ answers fall into three categories: the smilers, the hopeful and the performers. I call the first group the smilers because Ashley, 9, says: “Yes!! You will definitely go to heaven if you are a Christian and sin!”

Shooting Sports Clubs seeks members, instructors

The Highland County 4-H Shooting Sports Club will meet on Saturday, March 23 from 8:45a.m. to noon (rain or shine) at the Highland County Coon Hunters. The club wants to invite any young person 8 years of age and in the third grade as of the first of the year. It have paperwork to fill out and be signed by the parent/guardian and member.

42nd Global Methodist Lenten Concert

The annual Lenten Concert presented by the chancel and bell choirs of the Hillsboro Global Methodist Church will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 17. It will be an afternoon of inspirational Lenten music telling the story of the Savior’s love. There will also be special soloists. The public is invited. The church youth will serve a dinner following the concert.

When I was 3 or 4 years old, my parents ran a summer camp for inner-city kids up in the hills of the Allegheny Mountains. Most of the camp buildings were A-frames, which meant that the roof shingles were eye-level for a small child. One afternoon, my friend Howie (the cook’s boy) got a pack of matches. We decided it would be fun to melt some of the shingles on the backside of the dining hall. Could we catch it on fire?

The new half-hour video documentary from Ohio Humanities examines the little-known fight for school desegregation led by a handful of Ohio mothers and their children in 1954. It made its television broadcast debut on PBS stations across Ohio last month.
