County unemployment rate rises

The unemployment rate in Highland County rose in October to 4.0 percent, according to figures released by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS).

Atomic Credit Union has announced the opening of a new branch in Hillsboro on Dec. 1. This is the 17th branch for the credit union located at 583 Harry Sauner Rd., next door to Verizon.

AGMC earns rural health awards

As part of National Rural Health Day celebrated on Nov. 16, Adena Greenfield Medical Center (AGMC) has been recognized with multiple 2023 Performance Leadership Awards for excellence in patient perspectives and quality. Compiled by the Chartis Center for Rural Health, the awards honor rural hospitals across the United States performing in the top 25 percent in selected categories.

He might be a “thick boy” at 40 pounds, but in his heart he’s convinced he’s a lap dog, always ready to snuggle up with you. His adoption fee is $200. You can apply online for them at https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice or stop in at the shelter from 12-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday or 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday to meet who is available at that time. Arrive no later than 30 minutes before the shelter closes to ensure they have time to do the adoption. Take advantage of the society’s weeklong foster-before-adopting program to be sure he’s a good fit.

The Highland County Historical Society hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony alongside the Hillsboro Uptown Business Association and the Highland County Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the opening of the shop local season on Nov. 4.

Field fires pose risk in fall

Because wildfire danger is high in the fall due to abundant dry leaves and dead grass, there is a statewide burn ban from Oct. 1 through Nov. 30 that prohibits outdoor open burning between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
