The Ohio Educational Service Center Association (OESCA) recognized Ohio’s top students from across the state on April 15 during the 35th annual Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Awards Program held at the Nationwide Hotel and Conference Center in Lewis Center following the OESCA’s annual spring meeting.

Lynchburg-Clay team wins Envirothon

The Area 5 Soil and Water Conservation District held its annual Envirothon on April 23 at Camp Oyo in New Portsmouth, Ohio. The competition is designed to stimulate, reinforce and enhance interest in the environment and natural resources among high school students.

Job and College Fair held at SSCC

On April 24, the Southern State Community College Department of Health Sciences hosted a Career Connections Job Fair and RN-BSN College Fair. More than 50 current and prospective students attended as well as 10 employers and five colleges with whom Southern State partners for seamless transfer opportunities.

McClain students enter FAC Art Show

On April 13 art students from all the Frontier Athletic Conference schools which includes McClain, Hillsboro, Washington C.H., Chillicothe, Jackson and Miami Trace came together for a collective art show at Hillsboro High School. Through various media and techniques, McClain High School was represented by submissions from members of the art club. Pictured are just some of the pieces that were on display from McClain students in the categories of painting, artisan craft, mixed media, sculpture and drawing. Other categories students submitted works for included printmaking and photography. This bouquet was entered by Ashley Mitchell.

Hillsboro FFA competes in judging

The Hillsboro FFA Chapter was represented last month by seven members who competed in the General Livestock Judging CDE and Equine Judging CDE contests. All of these members made their way to the Ohio State Fairgrounds and Expo Center where they went head-to-head with other members from across the state.

Top Hillsboro FFA strawberry sales

The Hillsboro FFA was busy this past month with strawberry sales. Sixty-eight students in the FFA sold a total of 519 whole flats of strawberries raising $11,418. The FFA uses the money from the strawberry sale to help pay for CDE events and the national and state conventions. The top sellers this year was a three-way tie between Carter Boyd, Dalayna Collins and Riley Collins. Each of them sold 24 flats. Hillsboro FFA holds awards ceremony

The Hillsboro FFA Chapter hosted its annual awards ceremony April 7 at the high school. The Hillsboro FFA officers organized the ceremony and awarded all of the members in the chapter for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.
